This week’s edition of “Lenz On Business” is extra special with a pair of fantastic guests. Raphael Holloway kicks off the show to tell us more about Gateway Center and how this Atlanta-based nonprofit focuses on the needs of the homeless community. Since 2005, Gateway Center has been making efforts towards their vision of making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

They specialize in housing placement and stability, health and wellness, family and community engagement, job skills training and placement, and adult and financial literacy. On Saturday, May 4, Gateway Center will be hosting its 3rd annual Everybody Vs. Homelessness 5K at Westside Park in Atlanta.

Throughout the second half of the program, Diane Capriola takes us behind the scenes of Little Shop of Stories, the popular downtown Decatur children’s bookstore, and how she made her dream a reality. Little Shop of Stories is presenting the inaugural Decatur Children’s Book Festival May 3–5 in downtown Decatur, and Diane tells us all about it.

This week’s show takes a rare look at the iconic radio station WSB and the business behind it. WSB dates all the way back to 1922, making it the oldest radio station in the Southeast. So how does WSB continue to thrive financially, especially in the contemporary era? It’s the number one News/Talk station in America thanks in part to program director Pete Spriggs. During his WSB tenure, the station has won several AP News Awards, a National Murrow award, and several Marconi awards. Pete joins host Richard Lenz and gives us a peek inside the studio, sharing stories about some of the larger-than-life personalities he’s worked with, from Boortz to Limbaugh.

And we hear from Start:ME graduate Lanard Atkins, owner and founder of Timeless EYEdentity, a full-service mobile eyeglass and contact lens company that works with the film and TV industry.

This week Richard welcomes Robert Betzel, who took a shot at becoming an entrepreneur at the ripe age of 22. Eighteen years later he’s still serving as CEO of Infinity Network Solutions. This managed IT firm focuses on taking a holistic approach to being the IT Department for small- and medium-size businesses throughout Georgia. In addition to running this business, Betzel co-wrote the book “The Company Culture Challenge” and works to help other entrepreneurs by using the Entrepreneurial Operating System as a foundation.

At his heart, host Richard Lenz is an entrepreneur. About a decade ago, this week’s guest and a partner started a home improvements business from the ground floor up, pun intended. Steve Woods and Jim Marino began Pinnacle Home Improvements by going door-to-door selling roofs and gutter systems. Today Pinnacle not only operates out of Atlanta, but also has branches in Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee. Steve visits the WSB studio and tells guest host Jon Waterhouse the secret to his success, management and sales force tips, and what it was like participating on the TV program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

What’s the business behind a music festival with heart? Host Richard Lenz finds out as he chats with the folks behind the Amplify Decatur Music Festival, an annual event that raises money to fight poverty and homelessness. Guests include Amplify My Community founder Mike Killeen, festival director Christine Mahin, and an in-the-studio performance by acoustic duo Jared & Amber. Amplify returns to the downtown square on Saturday, April 14, 2018 with an all-star Americana line-up that includes The Lone Bellow, The Jayhawks, Amanda Shires, and Parker Millsap. All funds raised at the third annual festival will be directed to Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) to support its efforts to prevent and alleviate homelessness in Decatur and DeKalb County. The 2017 concert series featured Lucinda Williams and raised $40,000 for DCM.
